FMMA Brand Identity
This project required the development of a brand identity for the Francis Museum of Modern Art or FMMA (a fictitious company). FMMA is a proudly South African contemporary art museum. The museum comprises of a collection of prominent African artists, as well as a few international artists. It is located inside OR Tambo International Airport, and its main target audience is international tourism arriving or departing from the airport.
The challenge was to develop an identity that was unique and eye-catching but also one that emulates a contemporary art setting and showcases the variety of FMMA’s collection.
Grid Design
The grid used to develop both the logo and supporting elements was inspired by Ndebele Beadwork, a South African cultural landmark and popular tourist souvenir.
Icon Design
Each icon symbolises a different medium of art: Traditional, Mixed Media, Photographic and Sculpture. Paired with each icon is a pattern, once again based on Ndebele Beadwork patterning.
Promotional Item
The travel journal above serves as both a promotional item and souvenir.
Poster Design
Above, is a data visualisation about the psychology of colour. This poster design serves as an informative element with which museum visitors can interact with.
